LOREENA McKENNITT: EL NUEVO VIAJE CELTA 7 "THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY" (2010/11): 04 "DOWN BY THE SALLY GARDENS"

Hoy el viaje por la música de Loreena McKennitt, nos lleva de nuevo, a W.B. Yeats, con el tema "Down By The Sally Gardens". El poema es de Yeats, y la música es tradicional arrreglada por Loreena, de una manera maravillosa.

""Down by the Sally Gardens", es un poema de William Butler Yeats publicado en Los vagabundeos de Oisin y otros poemas en 1889. Yeats se indica en una nota que fue "un intento de reconstruir una vieja canción de tres líneas imperfectamente recordado por una vieja campesina en la aldea de Ballisodare, Sligo, que a menudo se les canta a sí misma." La "vieja canción" puede haber sido la balada "The Boys Senderismo del Placer".

El título original de Yeats, "una vieja canción de Re-Sung", refleja su deuda con los muchachos Senderismo del Placer. Apareció por primera vez bajo su nombre actual cuando fue reimpreso en Poemas en 1895.El verso se determinará posteriormente, con música de Herbert Hughes al aire Las criadas de la costa Mourne en 1909. En 1920 el compositor Rebecca Clarke (1886 a 1979) que el texto a la música. También existe una configuración vocales por el poeta y compositor Ivor Gurney, que fue publicado en 1938, y otro por Benjamin Britten, publicado en 1943. El compositor John Ireland anterior establece la letra de una melodía original en su ciclo "Canciones sagrado y lo profano", escrito en 1934.

"Salley" o "salida" es una forma de la palabra Inglés Estándar "pálida", es decir, un árbol del género Salix. Se encuentra cerca del sonido a la saileach palabra irlandesa que significa sauce.
